After a few days of fits and starts I cooked up a knock-out, build-up, powerful training program that would focus on his goals (continuing to get big, strong, and athletic) while challenging him to constantly push himself to become tough as nails, fast as a charging rhino, and just plain better.  To keep the cooking/lab metaphor (I'm a sucker for metaphors) going, I blended a strong dose of science, spooned in some generous helpings of the secret trainer tricks that I've picked up over the years, and spread a healthy amount of the “Animal Side” over the whole thing.

When I felt pretty confident that I'd come up with something of TRUE quality, I sent it to him. 

He almost immediately responded with a terse, obscenity-laden reply.

As much fun as I had writing the program for him, it got me thinking about my own training and my goals.  I realized that I had been “going through the motions” a little when it came to my own sessions, as unfortunately happens when you've been in the game for a while.  Since turn-about is fair play, and I believe that if you dish out some punishment you should be willing to take some yourself, I decided to MAN THE HELL UP and try my own program.

On a whim I decided to test my vertical jump, since I'd recently tested it before the program started.  Surprisingly, despite the heavy deadlifts, I jumped 28.5”, which is a full 1” higher than I had before the program started!  Given that I weigh 255 lbs, that's not bad!

I take regular measurements anyway and I knew that my arms had grown from 18” to 18.5” while my body fat actually went down.
